Introduction
Elliot is the main protagonist of the series. He is a young drifter who becomes a central figure in the growing conflict between independent Echo wielders and the authoritarian regime known as Obsidian. Elliot is not defined by lineage, destiny, or exceptional talent. His importance emerges through persistence, emotional honesty, and an unwillingness to accept a world that removes free will.
Elliot wields the Infernium Echo, a fire based manifestation tied to intense emotional states. In combat, he relies on close range martial techniques augmented by flames, but aids his fighting with strategic plays. Early on, his power is volatile and unreliable, reflecting his internal struggle rather than mastery.
Personality wise, Elliot is sincere, stubborn, and deeply empathetic. He feels fear, doubt, and guilt intensely, often questioning his own worth and decisions. Despite this, he continues to act when others would hesitate, especially when the safety or dignity of others is at stake. This makes him a natural leader, not through authority or charisma, but through his perseverance.
Throughout the series, Elliot opposes Obsidian’s belief that Echoes must be strictly controlled and that emotion is inherently dangerous. Traveling aboard the Nomad alongside a diverse crew, Elliot encounters fractured islands which test his beliefs and resolve in different ways.
Elliot’s role is not to embody perfection or destiny, but to represent the idea that survival, honesty, and belief can challenge even the most rigid systems of control.
While killing was never a thing he wanted to do, during the Hollow Creep arcs, he slowly comes closer and closer to killing, until he finally snaps, when he shatters Marionetta's head.

Backstory
20 years ago, the small island known as Whillo Island was a very peaceful place, the whole island housed a small village, where everyone knew everyone. However, 8 months after Elliot was born, an Obsidian Sergeant, called Ascero came to the island due to it being theorised from Obsidian scans that it would be a goldmine for Echoes.
After landing on the island with his soldiers, he made the whole island work under his command, making them spending every day of their life working in the mines. Elliot’s mother was an exception, allowing her to care for him until he was 6, where they were both put in the mines after that. Lives for everyone on the island were misery after that, working 8am to 8pm, day-in, day-out. Every person was rigorously checked at the end of the day to make sure they weren’t stealing anything, and the punishment for anyone who was caught was death. An Echo was found roughly once a month, but nobody ever dare tried to keep it, fearing their power and what would happen to them if they were caught.
Elliot was not allowed to work in the same bit of the mines as his parents, so a lot of his upbringing was forged by a person called Maestro (Mai-stro) (Full Name - Maestro Wood). Maestro an older man in his mid 30’s and was someone who Elliot found a lot of joy from, hearing his stories about his youth.
One day, when Elliot was around 12, the guards in the mines were so fed up with a lack of results that they started hitting workers, in hopes of speeding them up. In doing so, one of the guards hit Elliot and ripped his jacket that he wore every day. He nearly starts crying but he knows he will just be hit more if he does, so he just about composes himself. When he leaves the mines that evening with Maestro, he finally breaks down into tears, nearly hyperventilating. He says he hates his life, he feels cold and empty without his favourite jacket, and he’s old enough to know this isn’t the way things should be. He cries, saying that he’s going to die on this island and how much he wants to leave. To cheer him up and warm him up, Maestro takes off his scarf that he always wears, and hands it to Elliot. The ends are ripped and singed, and looks a little big on Elliot but he keeps hold of it. Elliot wears the scarf with a smile every day and Maestro loves it every day. While they may hate their living conditions, they make the most of their time together.
7 years later, when Elliot is 19, the scarf fits him a lot better and even more worn than before. He’s working in the mines and complaining about life as per usual. He swings his pickaxe into the wall, and a small black stone falls to his feet. The stone has an almost a vein like structure inside, with irregular glowing orange streaks running around it. Not entirely sure what it is, he kicks it into a corner, and buries it in a pile of dirt. Maestro (in his late 40’s by this point) turns around after hearing Elliot’s commotion and asks what’s wrong. Elliot plays it off, just saying he hurt is hand when swinging his pickaxe.
Later that night while everyone is asleep, Elliot sneaks off back into the mines to go find the stone that he hid earlier that day. He manages to get past the guards who don't care about their job enough to the point where they are asleep. He goes to his dirt pile to find Maestro waiting there. He knows Elliot was up to something, and wants to keep him out of trouble. Elliot explains what he found to Maestro, saying he should keep it because it feels and looks cool. Maestro disagrees, saying that he doesn't want him to be caught and that he should just hand it over to Obsidian. Elliot argues that if it's so important to Obsidian and their so eager to collect them, maybe it's their key to freeing the island.
Before they can argue anymore, the Obsidian guards wake up, hearing the commotion. Before they can even get a glimpse of Elliot and Maestro, they both run away in separate directions. Elliot runs through different tunnels, one which seems like an abandoned rail network, with a singular pod-like carriage that's been weathered with time. After sneaking around for a while, he manages to get out. He decides going home and laying low is his best option.
That night he inspects the glowing rock he found. It hurts to touch if held too long, giving a sort of burning feeling, but only when touched by skin, so he covered his hands in the scarf to hold the rock and examine it. The texture of the rock however was very smooth, and the shape was perfectly spherical. After he examines all he can, he wraps up the stone with the scarf to keep it at home and heads off to sleep.
The next day, while everyone is being inspected before heading into the mines, they are told to wait and to not enter. This confuses everyone, since they end up standing outside the mines for nearly an hour. Rumours spread around that everybody's work is cancelled for the day, but nobody knows why.
After nearly an hour of waiting, a guard speaks up. He tells all the people of the island that work is cancelled today, since they must attend a public execution... The execution of Maestro Wood, for the supposed crimes of alleged stealing of Obsidian property.
Elliot feels helpless, upset, enraged, and angered... at himself. His selfishness caused Maestro to get caught, and ultimately killed.
When the execution comes, Maestro is seen kneeling forward on a small platform, with a large rifle pressed to the back of his forehead. Elliot fights back tears, but a few still escape from him.
Maestro is asked if he has any last words. He looks up in Elliot's direction, and says:
"Keep that fire inside of you alive, boy... and set the world on fire..."
Moments later, Maestro is shot dead.
Elliot knows what he has to do, but he doesn't know if he has the strength to do it. He needs to get out of here, and find a way to save his home.
Before he could think, he ran. No guard was present at the mines, they are all at the execution. If he ran fast enough, maybe, just maybe, he could get to the abandoned train line. It was a gamble, but if he didn't escape now, he was a dead man. As guards realised what he was doing, they started to run after him, but Elliot had an incredible lead. Elliot ran, thinking about his parents. He can't even say goodbye... but he's sure he will return with a way to free the island, and then he can be happy again... it's what Maestro would've wanted. The more he ran, the more the strange stone in his scarf glowed.
Elliot gets down to the abandoned trainline with about 40 seconds to spare before he would be caught by the guards. He rips open the door of the pod, vines and foliage making it difficult to pry open.
After ripping it open he sees the controls, covered in rust. He finds a large lever sticking up out of the controls and pulls it with all his might. The lever pulls down and snaps in half at the bottom. However, the pod carriage slowly starts to move, and picks up speed. Before the Obsidian guards can catch him, the pod zooms down the tunnel.
Elliot knows what he’s done, but can’t believe he’s done it. He’s left his family behind, they don’t even know where he went, and Elliot doesn’t even know where he’s going.
Hours pass in the pod, and Elliot falls asleep. He’s woken up by the pod crashing into the wall at the other end of the tunnel. He gets out to see a small staircase. This place is clearly abandoned too, but walks up the stairs. This puts him on the island where his story began, Market Isle.

Triva
Elliot, being the main character, has actually gone through a lot over the past 10 years!
The earliest iteration of Elliot was me! As bad as it sounds, when this story first began (when I was about 9-10 years old), I wasn't a REAL writer, so I just used my own name for the main character!
While early on, Elliot's personality and attributes were just my own, he eventually grew into the character that he is now!
About 5-6 years ago, I changed the name of our main character to Henry. Again, he was still derived from me slightly, but that's when I started to get really passionate about this story!
While so much could be said about Henry and what the story was like 5 years ago, I fear this isn't the correct section!
In 2023 (ish), I changed Henry's name to Elliot Hayes! At this point, his character was his own, and was nothing like me!
At this point in the story, Elliot is "just a guy", and who knows where he will end up soon! Get excited!!
