Introduction

Jade is a central supporting character in the series and serves as a moral counterweight within the Nomad’s crew. She's quiet, observant, and deeply compassionate, and she is often underestimated by allies and enemies. Rather than seeking attention or dominance, Jade listens, watches, and understands.

She wields the Aquium Echo, a water based manifestation that was infused into her own body by Obsidian (overseen by her father, Marcus) rather than wielded externally. This gives her a defensive and adaptive combat style focused on endurance, redirection, and timing rather than overwhelming force. Jade rarely presses an advantage recklessly, instead allowing opponents to slip up and then going in for a counter attack.

Personality wise, Jade is gentle but resilient. She possesses strong emotional intelligence and remains calm under pressure, often being able to sense tension or danger before it becomes visible. While she struggles to assert herself and tends to carry the emotional weight of others, her presence naturally inspires trust and stability.

After being fully freed from Obsidian, she was able to remove her eyepatch, cutting all ties with her previous life. She now looks towards being a fighter and pursuing something unique. What exactly is she pursuing? That's yet to be seen…

In Episode 51, Jade finally receives a bow as a weapon to aid her in battle. While she is upset that she didn't get the bow she wanted, she makes the best of what she can with her smaller wooden bow.

Backstory

At birth, Jade was unique. She was born with heterochromia, with one blue eye and one green eye. The name Aqua, and Jade were fought over, but the name Jade was ultimately chosen.

At 5 years old, Jade had a happy family, being the only child of her mother, Anne, and her father, Marcus. They were a happy family like any other. Her mother stayed at home, doing chores and taking care of Jade, while Marcus worked 7 days a week at the port, selling fish or even giving some away to anyone who was starving.

However, the port slowly started to lose money, and Marcus was about to be out of a job. He was approached by an unnamed friend who said he could join Obsidian's science division for a large salary of 200,000 Lumes (currency) a year, which was a hefty amount to Marcus. So he took the job.

Anne wasn't pleasantly happy with Marcus' new job but had no choice but to support him.

Jade was proud of her dad for getting a new job and praised him a lot, saying she wished she could be as cool as him one day.

When Marcus started the job, he was given an unnamed Echo (at the time. Now known as the Physicite Echo) inside a gauntlet to test on his body. It boosted his physicality to the max, and was told to keep the gauntlet on at all times.

As the weeks progress, Marcus' time at home dwindled more and more. He stayed late almost every night, not being able to spend any time with Jade. Little did he know, the Echo he was given at work was slowly taking over and altering his mind.

When it came time to take it off, the Echo sent Marcus into a rage due to him not wanting it removed. The Echo had become part of his identity, something he couldn't remove. In the rage, he killed his work friend, Harry, several guards, and his boss.

Marcus rushed home, telling Anne that they needed to leave. Unknown to Anne, Marcus wanted to take her and Jade to Obsidian to work there. Anne refused, but Marcus didn't waste time. He used the Echo to explode her into pieces of dust, leaving Jade.

Jade couldn't fight back, so Marcus took her back to Obsidian.

After that, everyone feared Marcus, so he became the new boss. One of his first assignments to the scientists was to put the Aquium Echo inside of Jade's body, allowing it and her to reach their full potential if they rely on one another.

After the Echo was successfully placed inside Jade, she was abused by Marcus while he tried to train her to be an assassin. Her job would of been to kill Echo wielders, and deliver the Echoes back to Marcus, so that he could build up his army.

Years pass, and all Jade can do is go along with Marcus' plan, until 9 years later, when Jade is 14.

One day when she's 14, a Skystorm hits. One so powerful that it destroys part of the Obsidian castle, and gives her a window to escape.

Jade is picked up by the storm but manages to land by the docks, which leaves her only method of escape to be by boat. She gets onto a small boat and goes as far as she can, using Aquium to manipulate the waves to her advantage.

For the next 4 years, Jade would go around and steal food and supplies while on the run, which would eventually lead her to Atlantopia. Once there, she decides to truce with Maelor, who agrees to not hurt her if she keeps her distance.

She camps out a while there, until Elliot shows up on the island one day. She distances herself out of fear, but slowly begins to trust him, which ultimately leads to their alliance in Atlantopia and their friendship afterwards.

Trivia

Jade is someone who surprisingly hasn't changed for the longest time, despite having a lot going on!

I came up with the idea for Jade somewhen a few years ago, about 4 years ago, probably! But as with all characters… she wasn't called Jade at the beginning!

She was actually called Sylvie! Funnily enough, her second name has FOREVER stayed the same as Sylvanos. Her second name actually came before her first name, which looking back, that's a weird way to do it, huh?

The name Sylvie derived from the fact that it sounded nice against "Sylvanos". The name meant nothing other than that! Hence why, after developing her character more, Jade fitted her quite well.

If I had to admit though, I did like the name Sylvie! Maybe I'll use it somewhere else…
